Fairytale Castle Combe – a real life movie set or a scene from Disney World (it has, in fact, been used as a movie set). Teeny, tiny, charming cottages. Unicorn Lodge, Malthouse, Combe Cottage, The Gates. An honesty-box bakery outside.

We walked to the stream, through the square, past the old post office. We walked across the old cemetery and into the old church.

Quiet, but not empty; people passing through on New Year’s Day walks just like us.
