Tulum was everything I didn’t expect it to be. Raw, dusty, green, fresh, foreign, alive. We only went to meet a friend for the weekend, and I feared mass crowds and Americana spring-break-chaos. It wasn’t that at all.
Notebook scrawlings: Our little red car. Walking on the dirt brown road at dusk, fresh fruit, and the smell of burning. Submerged, alone in the crowd with bats and beam of light. Coconut water in a coconut carefree, on the swing. Feet in soft white sand, mezcalita as the violinist plays live, watching the world go by. Barefoot on the paved road, purple charcoal sky, palms dyed pink by dusk light. That first perfect bite of a street taco. On the rooftop, under the stars. Friendship. Real and free. Turquoise, dirt, palm.
